Ingredients: Sugar, Salt, Chipolte Chile, Aji Amarillo Chile, Smoked Paprika, Lime
Our South American inspired chili lime seasoning stars the Peruvian chile, Aji Amarillo and you can use this to add authentic South American flavor to dishes made with beef, chicken, pork, seafood, vegetables, ceviche, empanadas or tamales. We also list using this to add some unexpected zest to dressings, guacamole, marinades, sauces, soups and stews.
It adds a unique flavor to grilled chicken or shrimp and when added to chips and popcorn will make your guests ask for your secret ingredient! Once you’re tried this seasoning you’ll find yourself adding it to marinades, salsas and sauces as well.
I first came across this seasoning when looking for a different type of flavor enhancer for fruit. Seasoning fruit with chile peppers and salt is common throughout Mexico and Southeast Asia. A trip through Mexico will show you just how popular this is as it is found in small markets on side streets and at stands throughout parks where you’ll find vendors selling fruit and little baggies of chili seasoning salt.
If you’ve never used a spice blend to bring an over, or under, ripe watermelon to life you’re in for a treat. This spicy combination isn’t just confined to watermelon either as it works its powerful magic on fruits like apples, cantaloupe, mango and papaya as well. We’ve also tried it on vegetables like cucumbers and jicama with mouthwatering results.
Now most of the chili lime seasoning blends you can find are heavy on the salt but I tend to gravitate more towards seasoning blends with less sugar and salt in them. This blend has been developed and tested with significantly less salt while still be loaded with flavor. After all you can always add more salt if you chose.
When researching various chili lime seasoning blend recipes I found the use of a variety of chiles – everything from Aleppo and New Mexico chiles on the milder side to those that pack a lot more heat by using Habanero or Ghost chiles. It’s also common to see a chili powder blend used as the heat base. Many of these blends also favor a dried lime powder that is “enhanced” with lime flavorings. I’ve never been a fan of adding flavoring “enhancers” to any of our blends.
